Your rising sign — your ascendant— is the sign that was climbing over the eastern horizon the moment you were born. It’s your first impression and your instinct, the face you meet the world in. Enter your birth details below to find yours, free.
Your rising sign changes about every two hours, so the exact time matters. It's on your birth certificate.
Where your Sun sign is the core of who you are, your rising sign (ascendant) is how you meet the world — your outward manner, your reflexes, the first thing people sense in you. Traditional astrology also treats the ascendant as the starting point of your whole chart, the cusp of the first house, which sets where every other planet falls.
The ascendant moves through all twelve signs in a single day — roughly one new sign every two hours — so unlike your Sun sign it depends on your exact birth time and the place you were born. A guess of even an hour can land you in the wrong sign. Your birth certificate is the most reliable source. This calculator uses the same JPL-accurate astronomy engine as our full readings, so the result is the real thing, not an estimate.
Most people only know their Sun sign — the one a horoscope column asks for. Your rising sign is often what others actually experience when they meet you, which is why two people with the same Sun sign can feel so different. Together with your Moon sign, the three form the backbone of a birth chart.
Your rising sign is just the doorway. The Esoteric Eye reads your whole chart — Sun, Moon, every planet, and 48 wisdom traditions — into one honest portrait of who you are.
